Polish bass-baritone Michal Karski is currently a member of the Opera National du Rhin Opera Studio in Strasbourg for the 23/24 and 24/25 seasons. He began his musical journey at the age of eight as a guitar student of Ryszard Balauszko at Warsaw University of Music, where he also discovered his passion for singing as a member of the Warsaw Boys Choir, where he performed from 2004 to 2011. Karski holds a bachelor’s degree in singing and drama from the same institution, going on to win second prize at the Singing without Borders Competition in Poland and Third Prize at the Gaetano Donizetti International Opera Competition in Italy. He completed his training at the Dutch National Opera Academy in Amsterdam and the Hague.
Operatic role performances include Don Alfonso Così fan tutte at the Warsaw Chamber Opera; Frank The Bat; Achilles Cleopatra and Cesare; the Baron Cinderella; Bellomy The Fantasticks, Dottore La Traviata, Troisième Brigand Les Trois Brigands, Puppet Maker Postcard from Morocco; Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte; Papageno Die Zauberflöte; and Colline La Bohème at the Théâtre Carré with the Royal Netherlands Opera. Thanks to the Grote Zangers foundation, he performed a solo recital at the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam in 2023.
